Check your router's app first
Many routers and mesh systems have a parental controls or family section in their app. If yours does, use it: it may let you set filters and bedtimes per child.
Or use a free family filter
Free "family" DNS services block adult sites for every device on your Wi-Fi. Pick one:
- Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 for Families: 1.1.1.3 and 1.0.0.3 (blocks malware and adult content)
- OpenDNS FamilyShield: 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123
Enter the numbers in your router
Sign in to your router's app or admin page, find the DNS setting (often under Internet, WAN or Advanced), and replace the DNS servers with the two numbers you picked. Save, then restart the router.
โ ๏ธ Careful: Only change the DNS setting. If you're not sure what something does, leave it alone or ask your internet provider.Test that it works
Cloudflare offers a test page: on a home device, open nudity.testcategory.com. If the filter is on, the page won't load.
๐ก Tip: A filter only works on your home Wi-Fi. Kids' phones on cellular data, or using a VPN, skip it, so keep parental controls on their phones too.
